All will enjoy their time in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains where the verdant greenery, lofty waterfalls, and dribbling mountain streams serve as a draw for tourists. The train stop on the way allows you to buy handicrafts and antiques. You can also grab a bite to eat and take a walk along the beautiful Ocoee River. Both kids and adults like the 4-hour journey that can be taken in open air rail cars or air-conditioned cars.

The Appalachian Trail is a popular spot for those who like hiking. It stretches from Springer Mountain in North Georgia to Maine. Start the hike from Springer Mountain and go down to Benton MacKaye Trail. On the way, you will find a stream where you can rest for a while. The forest and beautiful valley views are sure to amaze you. To take in more of the lush scenery plan a picnic at Amicalola Falls in Dawsonville. This waterfall is rated as the tallest one in the southeast at a height of 729-foot. First, go over to the visitor’s center to get more information and then plan accordingly.

To experience the flavors the local villages, have on offer head over to Helen an Alpine Village in Georgia. This beautiful town is about two hours north of Atlanta and offers a Bavarian experience. You will find charming shops where you can have a look at handicrafts, candles, garments, and buy homemade candy for kids.  The family will also like to ride the horse-drawn carriages.  This beautiful area has parks and waterfalls like Anna Ruby where you can spend time with family. While you are there visit the Brasstown Bald, a mountain from where you can see 4 states. In summers, a trip to Helen Waterpark is a must as it will be very relaxing floating along the lazy river.

Snorkeling is fun and at the Conasauga River, you can discover more than a few dozen species of fish. These colorful fish can be seen after you sign up for a snorkeling tour at the Georgia Conservancy. The trees are shady and it’s a good idea to have a picnic there.

Tubing is also fun in North Georgia and so is white water rafting. If you like water sports, you should come prepared. The rivers and lakes have a lot of variety of fish that you can catch so bring the rods and reels along. Check the fishing calendar as the weather may affect your fishing experience.  From Helen, you can tube down to the Chattahoochee River from Cool River Tubing. All riders need to be more than 3 years old to take a solo ride.

No trip to Blue Ridge is complete without a visit to Lake Blue Ridge. Here you can kayak, fish or just paddle the lake to enjoy its picturesque beauty. Plan to spend at least a few hours here. From Blue Ridge take the family to see the Toccoa River Swinging Bridge located nearby. It is a 270-foot-long suspension bridge and offers a unique experience.
