Family holidays are all about creating magical memories that will fondly be remembered by your children for the rest of their life. It’s a time of adventure and family togetherness away from the hustle and bustles of daily life. Travelling with the kids overseas can at times come with challenges, especially the part of getting to the airport and the plane ride. Don’t worry, you can overcome these challenges with a little prior planning. This post is dedicated to all the parents out there who are travelling with their kids.

Passports and Documentation

First of all, everyone needs a passport when travelling overseas. Make sure you organise your children’s passports well before the travel date to avoid the last minute rush to get the paperwork done. It also pays to check if you need visas to enter the country you plan to enter. Visas can take time to process so the sooner, the better. There is nothing worse than going to the airport and finding out you can’t travel because you don’t have the right documentation.

Keep them Occupied in Transit

If your child is bored and left to their own devices, they are more than likely to misbehave. Make sure you pack enough toys, gadgets, and gizmos to keep them entertained on the long flight ahead.  This will ensure that they will be on their best behaviour when on a flight or layover.

Health and Medication

If your child requires specific medication, you should stock up before you go. In some countries, the little things we take for granted, such as access to medicines can be difficult. All you have to do is make an appointment with your doctor and explain your circumstances. They can make sure you are not left without when travelling aboard.

Packing

Taking kids on holidays means that you will have your work cut out for you when it comes to preparation. You’re not only packing for yourself, your packing for kids as well. Before you start packing, do a Google search and check what the weather/season of your destination and pack accordingly. Get your kids involved in the packing process and have them select their favourite clothes to take. Of course, you will have to overseas the whole operation and make sure they’re packing the essentials.

Teach Your Children the Buddy System

As a family unit travelling overseas, you need to stick together. Give your family little pep talks before you leave and teach them the buddy system. If your kids are aware of the rules, they will be more likely to follow them.

Getting There

One of the biggest challenges of travelling is getting to the airport, organising a lift that is big enough for the whole family and all the luggage, waiting for the lift, then getting everyone in the car. All this stress can be avoided by booking airport parking, all you need to do is get to the parking, and then someone can even be there to park your car for you. The shuttle bus will take you the airport in a short trip, and you can rest easy knowing your vehicle will be safe in secured airport parking. No need to think about how you will get home when you are back from your trip as your car will be ready for you when you come back. Some even offer a car wash service so that you can go back to a clean, fresh ride.

Your family holiday can run as smooth as silk if you do some prior planning. A hassle-free holiday is a happy time and filled memories that can be cherished for years to come.
